Just in case you missed the big news, Pantone's Color of the Year for 2025 is Mocha Mousse. 🎨 As with most things these days, exposure on the internet heightens interest in things we didn't pay attention to 30 years ago. Yet every December, since it's inception in 2000 with Cerulean, the Pantone Color of the Year is introduced in December. Last year the color of the year was Peach Fuzz. It was touted to be warm, cozy and modern. The annual announcement influences fashion, footwear, beauty products, media content, paint, upholstery, bedding, curtains, floor coverings, even car interiors..and this year's color is a very pretty shade of brown. Yes, you read that right. I used "pretty" and "brown" in the same sentence. Not only does mocha mousse conjure up memories of Whip 'n' Chill instant pudding that was one of my favorite desserts when I was in high school, but it is also the attractive shade of many in the animal kingdom's coats. Rabbits, deer, minks, cats, dogs, goats, bears, chickens, pigs ... even woodchucks, snakes and fish share mocha mousse colors in their fur and scales!
My love of color began in the 1950's when I opened my first box of Crayola crayons. My absolute all-time favorite crayon color is Burnt Sienna. It's a warm reddish brown. Think autumn leaves, dark auburn tresses, and lions' manes. This is the first time a shade of brown has been chosen as the color of the year.
All of the hoopla over the announcement recently hit many of my favorite social media sites. Influencers have been posting makeup looks, clothing ensembles, shopping hauls and interior decor updates.
The past several days have been cold, snowy and windy here in Western New York State. It created the perfect opportunity for me to play a little and see what I could find in my closet and in my makeup stash that lent itself to a mocha mousse look. I was surprised to find there was more than I expected that I could claim as mocha mousse worthy! I made a complete mess of my studio and bedroom as I pulled out any and all mocha mousse candidates. My dress form obsession paid off as I pressed three of them into service as my models. Not always cooperative, and sometimes a little off balance, I padded and pinned them into submission.
The photos below include some of my mocha mousse-ish clothes, which have been added to my wardrobe over the past few years. I included sunglasses, hair accessories and makeup, too. Again, I was surprised to find so much in my makeup drawers in the mocha mousse color family.

Animal print is still a favorite of mine. The background color of this dress is more tan than peach. The spots are black and mocha. This looks nice with tan or black tights, boots, shoeties or flats. The shoulder bag can also be worn crossbody or carried with its short handle. |
|
The mock neck sweater is black and the palazzo pants are black, cream and tan. The sweater coat is a light mocha. The leather clutch is black and coffee and can be converted to a shoulder bag. The patent slingback flats are a good match. |
|
Tunic top is coffee with cream polka dots. Pinwale corduroy jeans. The taupe crossbody bag is convertible. The shoeties are imitation suede. |

Changing the look with a popular "lady jacket", peach crossbody convertible bag and peach flats. |

A casual plaid flannel shirt in pink and mocha layered over a soft cocoa brown v-neck tshirt with a cognac shoulder bag and and buckskin oxfords. |

Changing the look from pink to a plaid turquoise and mocha flannel shirt with a taupe crossbody bag and shoeties. |

Two-piece jogger set in a soft cocoa powder shade of mocha with matching suede sneakers. |
|
More on the cocoa theme. Ribbed mock neck sweater with patterned scarves to change up the look. |
|
Sunnies, scarves, headbands to accompany my mocha mousse looks. |
|
This lip pencil, lipstick and lip oil are not as orange as they look in the photo. They are a soft shade of cocoa. I'll be on the hunt for a nail polish to round out the color story. |
|
Three of my favorite eyeshadow palettes that I use in autumn. They have colors to accompany my mocha ensembles. |
|
The previously autumn eyeshadow palettes will be pressed into service all year long! |
I hope you enjoyed this different kind of post to start off the new year. It was fun putting it together for you. 😊 Will you be wearing mocha mousse this year? Or, will you be finding ways to include it in other ways?
